This realist interior was created in Winsor & Newtons Artists’ Oil colours on canvas. It was painted from a water-colour study done in situ and photographs. The chalk marks, paint splashes and graphiti were carefully positioned to divide the picture. The perspective was achieved by snapping chalk line on the canvas from a vanashing point 15 feet away. The door edge is painted to appear on the picture plain (Life Size) view detailed photo below
This painting has appeared in many exhibitions. In 2003 it won the 20/21 Art Galleries 1st prize for contemporary art.

30cm x 40cm W & N Artists’ Oil Colour on Canvas
This small oil painting is part of a series of pictures that have conjuring & magic as a theme. The three bent spoons have been arranged in a close group, but without their shadows touching. A random look that was carefully choreographed to achieve a minimalist cool image. Uri Geller performed the spoon bending illusion on TV many times, insisting it was an actual mental power he possessed– a better trick would have been one where the bent spoons were straightened.
83cm x 51cm W & N Artists’ Oil Colour on Canvas
This Oil Painting was painted from life and is a room in the Medlock Fine Arts Dept. Manchester. I made the painting just after I had seen the Edward Hopper exhibition at the Hayward. He has been an inspiration to me on many occasions. Like Hopper I have used quiet heavy paint in some of the projected highlight areas.
70cm x 50cm W&N Artists’ Oil Colour on Canvas
This is an oil painting of a baffling Illusion that was shown on TV as one of the worlds greatest tricks. It is painted in oils on a rouge grained canvas. The bulb shape was masked and prepared with many coats of Winsor & Newtons underpainting white to build up a smooth surface. The glow of the bulb was air brushed in at the end,The figure is myself although I don’t Know how the trick is done.
24cm x 33cm W & N Artists’ Acrylics on canvas
A small acrylic painting of part of a door in Gourdon, France. The image is depicted half life size in this painting. I have painted a series of ten door paintings in acrylics while living in Gourdon. Surprisingly the last time i saw this actual door the blue colour was completely different having been bleached by the sun.
91cm x 61cm W & N Artists’ Oil Colour
Painted at night under fluorescent Lighting at the Medlock Fine Art Centre. The picture is painted on a coarse canvas in Oils. In the centre of the picture are the sodium street lights of the Mancunian Way showing through a window and below this orange glow is a faint dark image of myself reflected in the reinforced glass. To depict the grid of wire in the glass I made fine cuts in the paint surface with a blade.
20cm x 30cm W & N Artists’ oil colour on canvas
The spoon is painted life-size on a wooden chess board it was
produced at the same time as the bent spoons painting and has
a sort of Dutch interior, tiled floor perspective. It also features
challenging shadows and reflective surfaces which I enjoy painting.
